Global Village Permaculture Β· Oliver, BC

Why Global
Village Exists

Global Village hopes to inspire action by helping people understand the value of secure, local, and sustainable food β€” and to show them how to transform their urban space into affordable, healthy, organic abundance. We all deserve safe, healthy, and reliable access to food. Reclaiming it is not a lifestyle choice. It is a survival skill.

From Nepal to Oliver, BC

Food is my passion: I love growing it, preserving it, cooking it, foraging it, and of course, eating it. During the Covid-19 pandemic I realized how insecure our food system really is, so I resolved that I would do what I could to help people understand the importance of food security.

"They were poor, yet rich β€” because they were at one with nature, in sync with the elements, and respectful of the gifts of the earth."

I first learned about permaculture on a demonstration farm in Nepal. The people at the farm touched and inspired me deeply. I wanted to create this balance in my own life.

Permaculture is more than a way of growing food: it is a way of living. Global Village allows me to put into practice the principles of Earth care, People care, and Fair share. It is my privilege to share my skills and knowledge with you β€” to inspire you, and to feed you.

β€” Corrie Adolph

Working With Nature

Permaculture was founded by David Holmgren and Bill Mollison, who wanted to establish a more natural approach to agriculture β€” one that encourages people to work with nature and the natural rhythms that surround us.

Permaculture seeks to observe a space and how it naturally interacts with the elements before designing the garden. The design mimics nature through healthy soil built over time by layers of organic matter. Biodiversity in the permaculture food forest builds beneficial relationships between plants, eliminating the need for fertilizers and pesticides.

Edible landscapes can be both beautiful and low maintenance. At Global Village you can learn to transform your yard into food in a way the neighbours will approve of. If you'd rather not DIY, Global Village can design a custom landscape for you. Call today for a free consultation.

🌱 Food Forests & Guilds

Tree guilds use diverse plants in close proximity around fruit and nut trees. Each plays a unique role β€” attracting pollinators, transferring nutrients, or repelling pests β€” working together like a natural forest ecosystem.

πŸ„ Mycelium Networks

Beneath the soil, mycelium networks connect plants in a web of mutual support. Fungi transfer nutrients and chemical signals between plants, creating soil health that no fertilizer can replicate.

πŸ’§ Water Wisdom

Permaculture dramatically reduces water use through swales and by keeping soil covered with organic matter β€” like a forest floor β€” that retains moisture and feeds the soil food web.

Canada's Wine Capital

Oliver, British Columbia sits in the South Okanagan β€” an area of stunning beauty full of vineyards, lakes, forests, and beautiful desert mountains. Geographically unique in Canada: a desert climate with warm springs and falls, hot summers with cool nights, and mild winters.

As a result, we grow an extraordinary variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers β€” endless opportunity to teach permaculture concepts to visitors from around the world. Dozens of world-class wineries, with hiking, biking, boating, and fishing right on your doorstep.

I am not sure I can put into words how delightful our stay was. This is not an ordinary B&B. This is Michelin star. Corrie went out of her way to make us feel at home. My son who is 13 and a total foodie ate everything. He loved it all.

We arranged our travel dates this summer just so we could stay with Corrie again. Last year we took a permaculture course and have begun implementing practices in our home garden. We are already planning to come again next year!

Corrie is a gourmet cook β€” breakfast in the garden was the best I have ever had. The backyard was fabulous β€” rocked in the hammock, soaked in the small pool and relaxed in the garden. Highly recommended.

The host was so kind, knowledgeable and was a FANTASTIC cook. Her breakfast was extremely high quality full of fresh, flavorful ingredients. Her permaculture yard was created with so much love and care. One of the best experiences we've had on Airbnb.

The most thoughtful and thought-out place we have stayed in, and we travel about 6 months a year, so that is saying a lot. In all, a great experience. And the hostess is a gem. My only regret is that we could not stay longer.
